Are you muttering ““Who cares?’’ Broadway cares, and so does CBS, whose ratings for the Tony show languish in the single digits. Of course, the Tony folk have been known to fiddle with their precious categories. Last year the compendium of Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes ““A Grand Night for Singing’’ was nominated for best book, even though no book was discernible. Some Broadwayfarers think that a best-score nomination may go to music for a straight play, maybe Wynton Marsalis’s for the upcoming ““On the Waterfront,’’ to fill out the category so that Lloyd Webber can get his Tony....

Holt belted a pinch-hit tiebreaking homer, Rick Porcello threw seven impressive innings and the major league-leading Boston Red Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 Tuesday night. Sandy Leon also went deep for Boston, which improved to 86-35. The Red Sox increased their total to 168 homers, matching their number from last year when they hit an AL-low 168. Porcello (15-5) gave up one run and two hits, striking out 10....

Also announced for the same night is a match between John Cena and WWE US champion Alberto Del Rio. The streak of Lesnar returning at the WWE live events continues with this latest development. He was last seen at the WWE Live event at The Forum in Inglewood, California earlier this month when he defeated Del Rio by disqualification. Lesnar and Sheamus have never faced each other before this and this one should be a barnburner, given the physical styles of both men....

But it sure was fun to watch. If the NFL can serve up something close to that Broncos-Cowboys game once a week, even once every couple of weeks, nobody in America would complain. Defense may win championships, but 99 points (tied for the third-most ever) and 1,039 yards and nine touchdown passes win hearts, minds and souls. Mix into the points and yards several scoops of drama, momentum swings, lead changes, excruciating human shortcomings and exhilarating redemptions -- not to mention a Hall of Famer and runaway MVP favorite playing second fiddle -- and you get "where-were-you-when-it-happened" games like Denver 51, Dallas 48....

Alaska Wildlife Troopers said they were notified about the bear attack last Thursday at about 8 p.m. The incident took place along the Chilkat River, close to the town of Haines. Scott Bradford, 55, and his son Casey Bradford, 21, were returning to their boat after a moose hunting trip when a brown bear emerged from the brush without warning and attacked the son from behind, authorities revealed in an official dispatch published online....

Cleveland earned its first victory of 2016 Saturday and averted joining the Lions in 0-16 infamy with one week to spare, holding on to barely beat the Chargers 20-17 at FirstEnergy Stadium. A win’s a win, until it’s not, and it’s difficult to categorize the 1-14 Browns as winners even still. Baker Mayfield helped the Browns (4-6) to a surprise victory over the Steelers (5-5) in a showdown between two AFC North rivals in Cleveland. Mayfield went 17 of 32 for 193 yards and two touchdowns, while he also rushed for a score. Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph struggled, going 23 of 44 for 221 yards and a touchdown, but he was intercepted four times. However, there was drama involving Rudolph, Myles Garrett and Maurkice Pouncey in the final seconds....

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson made his return to an NFL field on Sunday after nearly two years away, coincidentally taking his first snaps for his new team vs. his old team in NRG Stadium in Houston. While Watson played some stellar ball for the Texans, fans didn’t give him a warm reception, with the quarterback greeted by a heavy heaping of boos on his first snap. The U.S. infamously fell short in the final match of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign, losing to Trinidad & Tobago to miss the tournament for the first time since 1986. Following the loss, the program began a rebuild, with Arena and U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati stepping away to eventually be replaced by Gregg Berhalter and Carlos Cordeiro, respectively.
