One of the trends that began with Mortal Kombat 9 and has successfully continued through the series into Mortal Kombat 11 has been the appearance of guest characters from other franchises, usually those with a body count to their name. Fighters like Predator and the Xenomorph from Alien have fought alongside characters like The Terminator and, most recently, Spawn.

Previously, Ash Williams, the main character of the original Evil Dead franchise and one of actor Bruce Campbell’s defining roles, was seemingly leaked as DLC for MK11. However, in a recent interview with Fansided, Bruce Campbell himself put a damper on the idea, saying that there’s a very good chance it may not come to fruition.
According to Campbell, he has not been briefed on the situation by his agent, who of course runs every deal regarding role reprisals by him if it looks like all other parties agree and the role can go ahead. This, Campbell suggests, probably means that no final deal has been worked out between companies, or a dispute may still be going on about licensing the movie and character rights of Ash and Army of Darkness. This would seem to suggest that the ongoing Ash in MK11 leaks have been either outright false, or that plans to put him in the game have stymied somewhere along the line.
It seems more likely that there were, at one point, plans to have Ash in MK11, if the dialogue between Spawn and Raiden is anything to go off of.
Keep in mind, the situation with Ash is not as simple as it was with, say, bringing Spawn to MK11, which all parties were agreed on almost from the beginning. Todd McFarlane, Spawn’s creator, had always been open to the idea of putting him into an MK game, and Ed Boon was just as eager, while an appearance by Ash requires costly deals made between several parties who are not as gung ho about the situation. Only time will tell whether or not Ash and his boomstick will grace MK11’s expanding roster.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for PS4, PC, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
